Look at this weather map. What a perfect metaphor for the markets.

One Country, Two Typhoons
9 July 2015

What a perfect market metaphor. It's the day after the Hang Seng Index recorded its biggest 1-day percentage drop in years, and the Shanghai stock exchange is partially closed as companies suspend their own stocks and 5% shareholders are prohibited from selling. Then along come two typhoons, the larger one, Typhoon Chan-Hom, is headed for the Shanghai stock exchange, and in the process it has deflected a smaller one, Typhoon Linfa, which is taking a sharp left and heading straight for Hong Kong like it's on GPS.

If this seems familiar, well some of us are old enough to recall the Great Storm of 16-Oct-1987 in the UK which partially shut the London markets and preceded the Black Monday global market crash of 19-Oct-1987.
