China Telecom (0728): Chairman & CEO under investigation
Company announcement, 27-Dec-2015
Under the constant shuffling of party-appointed leaders of state-controlled enterprises, Mr Chang was President of China Telecom from 2002-2004, then Chairman and CEO of China Unicom (0762) from 2004 until moving back to China Telecom in September 2015.
Unicom's premature release
The SFC should investigate how China Unicom (0762) let its results out early. Companies should not disclose their results or other price-sensitive information to third parties (whether governmental or newswires) under embargo, as the potential for mistakes and abuse is simply too great. (8-Aug-2013)
Vampire - Nothing Left to Prove
Last week saw AGMs of CITIC Pacific, Hysan, Li & Fung, China Unicom, Cathay, Swire, HK Electric and CKI. In every case, a majority of investor votes were against the 20% cash issue mandate, but controllers pushed it through. With 10 HSI companies now having voted, Project Vampire has nothing left to prove - investors have voted on average by more than 2 to 1 against the issue mandate. It's time for the regulators to act. (16-May-2004)
Vampire bites Unicom
Investors in China Unicom yesterday voted by a 3:2 margin against the general issue mandate, striking another victory for Project Vampire. The fight for pre-emptive rights in Hong Kong has begun. (13-May-2003)
China Unicom Voting Recommendations
The 7th AGM in Project Poll is on 12-May-03, and we now produce our voting recommendations. We urge shareowners to register votes against the general mandate. If China Unicom issues new shares, don't you want your entitlement? (28-Apr-2003)
Proposed appointment of auditors
Company announcement, 9-May-2002
Yes, with just two working days before the AGM, and no time left for absent shareholders to send votes, China Unicom finally decided which auditors would be proposed for appointment at the AGM.
