In another internet first, Webb-site.com allows you to submit your views on the GEM listing rules directly to the SEHK. Read our views, then use our one-click form to tell the Exchange whether you agree. Your vote for better investor protection can make a difference, but hurry - the deadline for submissions on the consultation paper is Friday 30-Jun-00.

GEM wants YOUR views!
26 June 2000

Time for you to get involved! After a barrage of criticism from Webb-site.com and others about the way in which GEM was waiving its own listing rules, on 11-Mar-00 the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (SEHK) made a joint announcement, setting out new proposals and promising a market consultation exercise. That consultation paper (PDF format) is now with us.

One of the major problems in the past has been that public investors have been under-represented in these consultations (as well as on the listing committees which make the rules). Listed companies and their advisers by nature normally prefer minimum disclosure and minimum barriers to their use of the market, and it is their views that have carried the most weight.

Now using the power of the internet, you can make a difference. So if you have an interest in improving investment returns and protection of minority shareholders' interests, then make your views heard. Click on the links below. Hurry - the deadline for submissions is this Friday 30-Jun-00.

Your views will be transmitted to the SEHK and a copy will go to Webb-site.com. We will not publish your details but we may summarise the overall views of our readers.

Step 1: Read our Views

Step 2: Submit your views using our form
(sorry, the consultation period is now closed)
